My dried bamboo poles have bugs. Can anything be done?
Fine yellow sawdust being given off by dried bamboo is a likely sign of a Dinoderus powder post beetle infestation. Unless stopped, the beetle(s) will propagate and eat the pole to pieces. Spray will normally be ineffective since it does not get into the wood where he/she is chomping. Gas fumigation will work. This takes a professional. Freezing will also normally work since the bug is usually tropical. Heating to near browning will work. Microwaving will work. If none of this is possible, we recommend you remove all poles with traces of powder and burn it.
