Our slats are milled from 3-5 year old 5" Moso bamboo. A cut and finished flat side allows them to be easily attached to walls and ceilings with nails, screws, or glue. The opposite side preserves the slight curve of a bamboo pole, as well as its slightly waxy texture and protruding nodes. Face is left unfinished for a natural bamboo look of light, washed-out yellow. 1 3/4 in. wide (with a variance of +/- 1/32"), 6 ft. long, and approximately 1/4 in. thick.
Slats are traditionally used in building Kenninji fences, a popular garden Japanese garden fence named after a Buddhist temple in Kyoto. These can be applied to most surfaces with a paneling adhesive or and used as inspired ceiling or wall covering and wainscoting, or for furniture accents. We often see them used to decorate the walls, bars, and countertops of home tiki lounges. Slats are best affixed to surfaces with a strong paneling adhesive or finishing nails pushed through the nodes (the slight protrusions on the surface).
