Bamboo: The Smart Choice

Bamboo is a strong, durable and stylish fence material
Bamboo makes for an exceptional garden fence, providing an attractive texture and excellent privacy. As a fence material, bamboo is most known for its incorporation in Asian-themed gardens, but also works extremely well with contemporary garden design styles. Bamboo fences have a number of excellent applications: as an attractive privacy or security barrier, as a pest barrier, or simply for the unique design ideas inspired by its cylindrical shape.

• A bamboo fence is an economical fencing option, which can cost less than other comparable fencing options.
• Bamboo has a higher tensile strength than steel which helps it resist damage.
• Bamboo fencing is naturally dried, cured, and has a wax coating that acts as a water and mildew repellent.
• Bamboo has a high content of silica, which is a natural barrier to termites.
• Rolled bamboo fencing ships easily and is easy to install. Mounting a rolled bamboo fence panel to a chain link fence is quick work.

The most sustainable choice of fencing material you can make
Is there any better place to go green than in your own garden? American consumers commonly consider cedar, pine, or vinyl for their fencing material. The mass use of each of these materials has tremendous impact on the environment, particularly the manufacture of petroleum-based plastic.

Hardwood trees typically take ten to forty years to grow to maturity, and when harvested, the entire plant is destroyed. Destruction of old-growth forests can cause severe soil run-off and loss of animal habitat.

Bamboo can be continually reharvested and thrives under proper management, constantly regrowing. Mature bamboo poles or culms can be re-harvested on a three year cycle. Bamboo rhizomes (root-like stems) provide excellent erosion control, with leaf fall from bamboo improving the quality of the surrounding topsoil. Bamboo is naturally biodegradable. The growing demand for bamboo has the potential to make it a viable cash crop for areas devastated by jungle deforestation.

Bamboo products qualify for the rapidly renewable materials credit under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Rating System. Bamboo Fencer is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council.
