Background
Bamboo Fencer was founded in 1987 by Dave Flanagan. During Dave's years in Panama with the Coast Guard, he marveled at the ability of bamboo to thrive there, as well as the cultivation of bamboo as a cash crop to address the serious degradation of the tropical rainforests. Some years later, Dave launched his career selling bamboo fences with the aim of increasing demand for bamboo in the United States.
After working with bamboo artisans in Kyoto, Japan, then earning an Engineering degree and an Associates degree in Horticulture, Dave opened Bamboo Fencer for business in the Boston area in 1987. Dave Flanagan retired in 2006 but still works with Bamboo Fencer clients on a consultancy basis.
Now, under the new ownership of Jonathan Henke, Bamboo Fencer is upgrading and expanding the standardized product lines, and improving its on-line presence providing customers with the best choice of bamboo fencing in the United States.
